IMPORTANT: Recap of 1/24 Sewer Forum, ANOTHER FORUM 3/1

For the many Tivolians who did not attend the important Sewer Forum held by the Village Board of Trustees on January 24th, this email will convey to you the critical information that was presented that night.

The essential points of the presentation:

Tivoli’s existing wastewater treatment plant is beyond repair and a complete replacement with a new plant is imperative.

The current plant is failing to meet the State’s requirements of our SPDES permit and Tivoli is under a consent order from the NYS DEC to start meeting the permit requirements within 30 months or face costly fines. (SPDES is State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System).

The new sewer plant and attendant upgrades to the pump station and collection system are anticipated to cost $13,400,000. Yes, $13.4 million. If more funding is not secured, these costs could result in an additional $1,000 per year per household.

To view the slideshow presented on 1/24 click the link below. The slides take one through the history of the plant, the current technology, the proposed new technology, and slide #16 shows the projected costs for the total project and for a typical household.

THERE WILL BE A SECOND SEWER PROJECT FORUM WEDNESDAY MARCH 1ST AT 6:30pm. This will repeat information from the 1/24 meeting and continue with information about the collection system (which was not covered on 1/24). ALL users of the Village Sewer System are urged to attend, especially if you missed the first forum.

The Village Board and the Dutchess County Water and Wastewater Authority are doing and will continue to do everything possible to get this new plant in place, meet our Consent Order, and pursue the funding necessary to ease the financial burden on all users of the system.

Sincerely,

Mayor Griffith

The Village of Tivoli is a 1.8 square mile community on the banks of the majestic Hudson River with spectacular views of the famous Catskill Mountains. Established as a port on the Hudson in 1795, the Village was incorporated in 1872 and today is a tight-knit community of 1100 souls who live among natural beauty and rich architectural heritage.

Tivoli is a friendly, residential village of tree-lined streets and handsome homes. With a vibrant business core of fine restaurants, cozy cafes, an art gallery, a first-rate theater, colorful shops and a classic general store, Tivoli is the perfect place for an afternoon stroll, taking in some culture and settling down to a fine evening meal.

The Village center is one mile from the wide waters of the beautiful Hudson and one block from our main street is the expansive Memorial Park with a playground, basketball court, softball field and our lovely community garden.

But more than any of this, the best thing about this village is its residents; people who care about their neighbors and their community. Those who live here know well why we like to say “Tivoli” backwards, if you come visit you may say it too: “i-lov-iT !”
