New “Garbage Can” Law in Tivoli takes effect March 1st, 2018!

Dear Residents,

In response to years of garbage/recycling receptacles being left out at the curb, blocking the public roadways and sidewalks, creating safety concerns, and negatively impacting the charm and aesthetics of our community, the Village of Tivoli Board of Trustees updated Village Code Chapter 184: Solid Waste on January 21st, 2018.

This law includes new rules which govern the placement of garbage/recycling receptacles in our Village. These rules apply to both Village collection and collection by the private haulers who service customers in Tivoli (Welsh, Waste Management, Royal Carting, etc.). Please read and follow these rules:

No garbage/recycling bags/receptacles shall be placed curbside prior to 6:00PM on the night before collection.

All garbage/recycling bags/receptacles must be removed from the curbside by 10:00PM of the day of collection.

At all other times receptacles must be stored out of public view, or if not feasible, behind the front building line, on the owner’s property. (This means no cans stored in the front yard. Side yards and backyards are acceptable.)

Everyone must know the collection day of THEIR service, be it Village or private. Owners AND occupants (tenants) of a property can be held responsible.

Receptacles remaining near the curb, street, or sidewalk, outside of the approved time of collection can be removed and disposed of by the Village and/or result in a court appearance ticket and a possible fine of $50. Each day of continuance of an offense shall constitute a separate offense.

Please take responsibility for the receptacles you use, pull those receptacles back to the side/rear of your home, keep our sidewalks clear and open for pedestrians, and the public view-shed free from garbage cans the other 6 days of the week.

All residents are urged to follow the Water & Wastewater discussion.

Watch the 11/16/17 Water & Wastewater Forum:

FINAL WATER & WASTEWATER FORUM THURSDAY NOV. 16TH 7:00PM

All users of Village Water and Wastewater are urged to attend a final public forum on Thursday, November 16th at 7:00PM on the third floor of Village Hall.

This is the last chance to discuss with the Village Board and fellow residents the fate of our old and deteriorated systems.

The engineering and transfer feasibility reports are available for review in the “document center” of this website.  The financial assessment is that our systems need $9.5 million of repairs and upgrades.

Should the Village maintain ownership or transfer to the Duchess County Water & Wastewater Association?
